Student Supplies:

Wind Instruments

  1. Instrument in good working order with a secure, functioning and clearly labelled case.
  2. Valve oil, reeds, swabs, and any other supplies needed to properly maintain and care for your instrument.
  3. Your own personal copy of "Foundations for Superior Performance in Band".
  4. Chromatic tune & metronome - units are available that have both together.
  5. Additional supplies can include upgrade mouthpieces, ligatures, and mutes specific to certain pieces. Mr. DeWitt will discuss these with students and parents as the need arises.

Student Supplies:

Percussion

Percussionists will need to purchase their own set of mallets and sticks that will enable them to perform and study all of the percussion instruments. RMHS Bands will supply all instruments and any specialty mallets (bass drum, gong, chimes, etc.).

Their basic set up includes:

  1. Stick Bag
  2. Concert Snare Sticks (Vic Firth SD1)
  3. 1 pair of General Timpani Mallets (Mike Balter T3 or Vic Firth T1)
  4. 1 pair of Medium Yarn Mallets (for Marimba, Vibes & Suspended Cymbal)
  5. 1 pair of Hard Plastic Mallets (for Bells & Xylophone)

Blue Rider Music has assembled these items into a pre-packaged deal for approximately $120 (a significant savings from buying these items individually). Students that already have some of these implements, can just add on to fill out their set.

If these implements are well taken care of, they will easily last a student through their entire high school career and beyond. Concert implements have a much longer life span than drumset or marching sticks.

If a student wishes to expand their collection of implements, Mr. DeWitt can give them suggestions on what would be appropriate and useful additions. Click here for a full list of suggestions.

In addition, percussionists will need their own personal copy of "Foundations for Superior Performance in Band".

Please don't hesitate to contact Mr. DeWitt if you have any further questions.
